On 8/14/14 patrol deputies responded to a residence on Lagoon Rd, Statesboro, near the Go Bar Landing on the Ogeechee River for a missing person. Randy Higginbotham, 57 yoa, had last been seen by family at 1330 hrs and had several medical issues of concern. A search by the patrol shift was curtailed by nightfall and the density of the swamp growth of the Ogeechee River. At dawn on 8/15/14 the search resumed using approximately 20 BCSO deputies and investigators, rangers from the Georgia Dept of Natural Resources, and a helicopter piloted by troopers of the Georgia State Patrol. After three hours of searching by foot, ATV, boat, and helicopter, Deputy Will Craig located Higginbotham in an area of thick swamp near the river. Unfortunately, Higginbotham was deceased. At this point there is no evidence of foul play, however the deceased was turned over to the Bulloch County Coroner’s Office and further information on the cause and manner of death is pending. Deputies extend their condolences to Higginbotham’s family.
