Inmate escape attempt fails

On 12/25/13 deputies assigned to BCSO’s Jail Division noted damage to an exterior cell window of the Jail. The inmates occupying that cell, including Tahjz Michael Irving, were removed from the cell by deputies and an investigation into the damage was undertaken per Jail policy.  Further examination of the area revealed damage to the security fence surrounding the cellblock.  The scene was processed as a crime scene and the case turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division.

After interviewing multiple inmates and reviewing jail records, investigators determined that a second suspect had cut the fence and assisted Irving in damaging the exterior cell window in an attempt to escape.  The window, designed to withstand damage and such attempts to escape, prevented the escape and quick action by Jail deputies prevented further damage.

Investigator Jason Long issued a warrant for Irving for Criminal Attempt to Commit Escape and he is currently held in a security cell pending further judicial action.  The individual who cut the security fence and assisted Irving from outside the facility is being sought on criminal charges and that individual’s identity is being withheld at this time so as not to hinder that investigation.

Irving was arrested in October 2013 on warrants issued by Georgia Southern University Police charging him with Burglary, Kidnapping, Simple Battery, and Criminal Trespass.  No bond had been set for Irving at the time of his escape attempt.  Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Inv Jason Long at 912-764-1747 or submit an anonymous tip to
